Showing Appreciation for Senior Citizens

Seniors are surely having a hard time these days. A great number of them are sick, while most are sad and lonely. That’s the reason why County officials in Knox County started a Senior Appreciation Picnic. This public event has been an on-going yearly event for six years now.

It is set for September 21 and it is aimed at showing the older folks that their contributions have not been forgotten. The event includes a picnic, some live musical performances and a health fair which would be a great deal for seniors.

Here is a part of the article that appeared on the Knoxville News Sentinel, “Those who wish to take the shuttle from a senior center should contact that senior center by Friday.

The county began the picnics in 2005, an outgrowth of another senior event. Though there wasn’t one in 2010, Burchett hosted last year’s.

More than two dozen sponsors make the celebration possible.

Burchett said the picnic is a way to show appreciation for “everything (senior citizens) have done and continue to do for Knox County.”

“I always enjoy spending time with some of our most cherished citizens,” he said.”
