Senior Citizens: Favorite Target of Scammers
Scammers seem to always go after seniors. They are always trying to take advantage of the older people’s vulnerabilities. Officials from Missouri have reported that they have several complaints regarding a new scam that aims to target seniors.
Reports say that the scam involves seniors receiving phone calls from individuals claiming to be from the Social Security Administration, or other similar agencies. The callers would then inform the senior that they would need all of their personal information, including their social security number so that they can process the issuance of a new card.
Here is an excerpt from the article that appeared in Connectmidmissouri giving a few tips on how to handle such scams, “Never send money or give out personal information such as credit card numbers and expiration dates, bank account numbers, dates of birth, or social security numbers to unfamiliar companies or unknown persons.”
