Safety Measures for the Entire House

In order to secure the well-being of a senior citizen while he or she is at home, it is essential that safety and fall-preventive measures should be observed in all parts of the house and its exterior:
  • Rooms — short, dense pile for carpets, even thresholds and double-sided carpet tape on rugs, open and unobstructed pathways, and efficient lighting system.
  • Stairs — handrails, skid-resistant surface, firmly attached carpeting, and proper lighting.
  • Kitchen — sturdy step stools, non-waxed floors.
  • Bathroom — rubber bathmats, grab bars, and raised toilet seats.
  • Exterior — adequate lighting, handrails, uncluttered floors, and even pavements.
