The Grand Opening of Logan Township Senior Citizen Center
Around 10 years ago, the old Bridgeport School House was falling apart but now has a new life as a senior citizen center. It was built in 1867 and served as a school over 90 years later. It was then renovated to become the township’s municipal building. In 1995, when the municipal offices moved further down Main Street, it continued to be utilized as a meeting place for senior citizens and the historical society.
The township’s governing decided that it was a place worth saving, and with the help of a $231,000 Community Development Block Grant from the county, it reopened Tuesday as Logan Township’s Senior Citizen Center. “This gives back to our seniors. It gives them a place they can meet with their peers and build comraderie within their community.” The building’s rennovation cost $300,000 in total.
The structure will be uses by senior citizens to hold bingo games, social gatherings and many other meetings. Other groups are also free to use the facility if needed.
