Research is growing with high-tech gadgets that promise new safety nets for seniors who prefer living on their own for as long as possible.

“It’s insurance in case something should happen,” said Bob Harrison, 85, about the unobtrusive monitors that are being tested in his apartment at the TigerPlace retirement community in Columbia, Mo.

Living at home is what most people want later in their life. Americans who are more than 40 years old are worried about losing their independence when they’re about to lose their memories. This is according to a recent survey done by the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research.

The prices of the sensors are among the issues. Different kinds of sensors are already available in the market and they cost $70 to several hundred and you also have to pay for the monthly service plans.
