Orthopedic and Neurological Disabilities
This course is intended to expose and educate social workers, case managers, and other allied health professionals to an overview of orthopedic and neurological conditions, including their causes, symptomatology, and attention to disease progression management. This one and one half hour discussion includes how these medical conditions create challenges with respect to functional abilities. The course will provide the knowledge required to recommend home modifications to assure safe discharges from hospital/rehab centers as well as keeping clients safe as they age in place. This course will include an in-depth discussion of the importance of maintaining and/or improving a client’s function through appropriate exercise, stretching, and assistive devices, all in the attempt to prevent/reduce falls, improve rehabilitation, promote independence, and ensure safety. Many products and home modification projects will be reviewed, along with identifying resources for project finding.
The course is approved for 1.5 CE Contact Hours for both Social Workers and Case Managers.
