Tongue piercings may not just be fashion statement these days as scientists have found a use for them that could help change the lives of people with physical disabilities. A new device is allowing paralyzed people to maneuver their wheelchairs just by flicking their tongue in the right direction. Users will have to get their tongues pierced in order to be able to use this device that acts similar to a wireless joystick.
Jason DiSanto was one of the 11 people paralyzed from the neck down who was able to try out the device. “It’s really powerful because it’s so intuitive. The first time I did it, people thought I was driving for, like, years.”
