Low-Cost Legal Options for Senior Citizens

Sometimes the one thing that keeps individuals from getting the justice or lawful compensation they deserve is the high cost of legal representation or consultation. Lawyers usually demand expensive fees while other legal processes are also very high-priced.

If working individuals have trouble coping with the expensive costs of legal help, how much more for senior citizens who rely on their savings or solely on pensions they receive? Luckily, there are several options that seniors may pursue in case the need arises.
  • Legal Aid – offers free legal assistance to low-income people of all ages
  • Senior Legal Hotlines – offer all seniors over age 60 access to free legal advice over the telephone
  • Pro Bono programs – help low-income people find volunteer lawyers who are willing to handle their cases for free
  • National Disability Rights Network – if you or a senior spouse is disabled, this nonprofit membership organization can provide legal assistance through their Protection and Advocacy System and Client Assistance Program
  • Unbundled Legal Services –  If none of the other options work for you, you may choose to hire a lawyer to do some of the legal work and do the rest yourself to save on expenses.
