Safety Guidelines for Transferring Low-Mobility Seniors

Guidelines checklist

Many caregivers may find that offering assistance to senior citizens with low mobility, such as those who are wheelchair dependent, is more challenging and requires greater effort. Helping your patient move around the house and transfer from one platform to another can easily turn into a major accident if not performed correctly.

Here are some guidelines on transferring your low-mobility patient:

  • Use your legs to carry the weight of your patient rather than your back.
  • Grip them around the torso, and avoid pulling on his arms and legs.
  • Make every step easier through effective communication.
