No child was ever trained to care for a beloved parent who was diagnosed with dementia. However, people who are already in the situation seem to have a learned how with just a little help. Here are some helpful tips for you and your elderly loved one:

  • Physical, emotional and psychological pains and difficulties can trigger a foul mood among senior citizens. Instead of dwelling on their attitude, pull a deflection by asking about how they feel and what they need.
  • Some seniors who are compelled to move in with their children for care may not feel entirely comfortable with the situation. When they ask why it’s not possible for them to go back home, try to keep the answers simple.
  • Photos can be better than words when reminding or explaining certain events to a person with dementia.
